Brooklyn Standard Union
Student Body Joins in Choral Programme at Academy of Music The
commencement exercises of St. Francis Xavier Academy were held on
Thursday evening at the Academy of music. An attractive programme was
presented by the student body and the forty-three graduates.
Miss Teresa CALARCO's vocal solos received prolonged applause. Under
the direction of Prof. F. X. DOYLE, the choral selections were in
harmony with the musical programme.
Miss Elizabeth FARRELL welcomed the audience. Miss Florence KEMP gave
the valedictory.
Excerpts from the poetry of Catholic writers were given by Eleanor
MULLANEY, Agnes DALY, Catherine LENON, Annette VANDER PUTTEN
and Catherine FARRELL.
Mary DURNEY extended the congratulations of the graduates to Mgr.
David J. HICKEY on the occasion of the honor recently conferred upon him
by the Pope, making him the only prothonotary apostolic in this part of
the country. Mgr. HICKEY reminded the graduates of the necessity of
remaining faithful to the principles and ideals which they had learned
to appreciate during their high school years.
