"Dan Marshall was my closest friend from about 1927 until about 1939 (wedding bells in the offing*). His mother was long dead so he was almost family. For 3 weeks in June 1931 we both were in surveying camp at Schroon Lake. I have forgotten the details. If I remember correctly for some {vague} reason Dan spent a few weeks with a doctor who lived in Ballston Spa. I believe they met accidentally and the doctor was impressed with Dan. Dan combined brains with pure Irish charm. His father still had a very Irish brogue ... a real Irish family with a brother and later a nephew as priests." -J.R. VanderPutten, April 7, 2004

*Mom and dad were married December 2, 1939. Elsewhere Dad noted that Dan Marshall and Aunt Annette "did date very occasionally." - EAVP
