Once Upon a Time I Went to
Olivia's Birthday Party
|
Olivia Michelle Vander Putten My godson Michael and his wife Tanya held a party for their daughter Olivia's 2nd birthday. Here Olivia is opening a present. Mike had invited a few relatives and all his neighbors who have young children. Everyone came. It was a little overwhelming for Olivia. |

The Birthday Piņata The 15 or so relatives and neighborhood children gather around the piņata Mike hung up on the girls swing set. In the rear, Olivia's grandfather Dick (my brother) is capturing the occasion with the new digital camera he just bought to replace the one he left at the Ecology Center on Long Island on July 4th while on an outing with some other grandchildren. |

Olivia and
her Dad Michael Vander Putten
Mike is the doting dad. His Uncle Brian told him he'd seen a toy that he didn't think Olivia or Victoria had. Mike immediately wanted to know what it was. Uncle Brian finally told him he'd just been kidding. |

Olivia's Sister Victoria Vander Putten One of the prime attractions for the kids was the water slide. For an hour or so after Mike put it up, the slide was a non stop fluffy of activity. Here Victoria pauses to have her picture taken. |

Olivia's Cousin Kyler VanderPutten Kyler is the son of my nephew Rich and his wife Meg. He was six last January. Kyler is my brother Dick's first grandchild and Dick behaved just like the stereotypical new granddad. He was fun. |

|
Olivia's Cousin Matthew VanderPutten Matt is the son of my nephew Rich and his wife Meg. He will be four in October. Like Olivia, Matt was a little overwhelmed by all the people. |

Olivia's Grandmother Peggy and Me
Peggy and I have been friends from the day she and my brother Dick were married and that was in 1967. |

|
Olivia's Cousin Deasia Revels Deasia is Tanya's and Michael's niece. She is an honor student. Toni often takes her along on outings. She joined us on our "Girls' Night Out" last Christmas that included watching the Nutcracker at the Kennedy Center. |

The End of a Long Day As the afternoon grew later, the children began to tire. So too did Olivia's Grandfather Richard VanderPutten. Like grandfather's everywhere, my brother Dick photographed the kids, played with the kids, looked out for the kids, and even "rested his eyes" for a few minutes later on that afternoon. Note that Dick is wearing a different shirt than earlier when he was photographing the children gathered around the piņata. The reason was that he'd changed into shorts so he could go with Olivia to the water slide (nice granddad). |
