Elizabeth Anne VanderPutten - Uncle Bobby & Aunt Doris

How Uncle Bobby got to be Uncle Bobby

I had two uncles named Robert. One was my mother's brother and one my dad's brother. As children, we couldn't call them both by the same name, so one became uncle Robbie and one uncle Bobbie. Uncle Bobbie's daughter Laurie once asked about this. My brother Dick explained.
"Your dad, Laurie, was Uncle Bobbie to us. He was, and still is, a real cool guy. But he lived in Brooklyn (25 miles away, no car), and we probably only saw him 10-20 times a year, and he did not dedicate his life to us four kids, exclusive of all others."
