Ruane and RoryA few days after Christmas, 2002, I had a chance to see my grandson Rory (right) do a solo with his dad, Ruane. It took a lot of coaxing to get Rory up to the mike. I couldn't tell it it was modesty or reluctance to leave the side of his "friend" who accompanied him. |

The Ruane Larkin GroupRuane has a small combo who were playing at Starbucks in Stuyvasent Plaza in Albany, New York on December 27, 2002. On Ruane's left is Frank Prevratil on percussion and on his right is Scott LaMountain on base guitar. Ru and Frank have been writing music and playing together for a year. |

Ruane's "Old" MusicRuane teaches high school. I asked if any of his students ever came to watch him perform and what did they think of it? He said a couple of groups of kids had. And then he whispered with a slightly embarrassed smile, "To tell the truth, they said it's kind of old fashion." |
Ruane's Group at Starbucks Coffee HouseDan, Michelle, Erica, Shane, Brian and I all spent the evening listening to Ru's group. Also there were a number of his friends, cousins, aunts, nieces and other assorted relatives. Frank and Scott accompany him regularly at most gigs. Frank is a published poet and co-writes on many of the songs they do. There was also a foot and half of snow and it was coooold! |
