Loop Road (SR 94)

Loop Road turns off the Tamiami Trail at a sign for Monroe Station. Built in 1928, Monroe Station was once the headquarters for mounted motorcycle patrols for the new Tamiami Trail. It is the last building we saw until we passed Tree Snail Hammock Nature Trail and reached the Loop Road Education Center at Tamarind Hammock some 26 miles and 3 hours later.

Driving across Gator Hook Swamp and Sweetwater Strand, we passed through sawgrass marshes and Spanish moss decked cypress hammocks and by brooding yet strangely beautiful scenes like this.
