The Naples - Ft. Myers Area

We planned to explore the Naples - Ft. Myers area but Sanibel and Captiva islands proved too interesting. As a result, we only had time to drive around Naples on our way to Big Cypress.

What we did see was very attractive. Naples is an upscale small city (1999 pop. 219,685) in an affluent county where the median income is $59,100 and the average home sold for $277,699. We saw a lot more homes in the $1 million range however. (This 2-bedroom home in the Bonito Bay area with no pool or water front had a sign listing it for $475,000.) Golf, boating and fishing plus a warm climate seem to be its main attractions.
