Shirley Temple Black, child film
star-turned -diplomat, won an Academy Award in 1935 and
went on to worked for the United Nations and State
Department under four presidents.
She finished her diplomatic
career in 1992 after last serving as U.S. ambassador to
Czechoslovakia, the birthplace of a Kennedy Center Honors
guest, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
On June 15,
1999 the American Film Institute named Shiley Temple as
one of this century's greatest American screen legends.
