Shane and Erica alternate years visiting us. This year was Shane's turn.

He had been talking about joining the Marines after high school, so we took the occasion to tour the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.

 

 

Army-Navy Football Rivalry Trophies

The Army-Navy Football rivalry is one of the most enduring traditions in college sports, and dates back to November. 29, 1890.

Shane is an ardent football player. I thought he might be interested in these trophies. Navy at this time has won three games in a row and leads the series by one game.

Glimpse of the USNA Campus

We began our visit by watching a very well done film introduction to the life of a Midshipman at the Academy.

We then took a guided tour of the campus.

Hemmingway's Restaurant on Chesapeake Bay

After touring the Academy, we drove out to Hemmingway's Restaurant on Chesapeake Bay for a late lunch. 

Hemmingway's is one of Brian and my favorite seafood restaurants, and used to be a regular stop on our way back and forth to the Eastern Shore.

I love the view of the bay with the great bridge and sailboats, and Brian loved the steamed clams.

Sandy Point State Park

Coming home, we stopped at the Sandy Point State Park, which is located on the shore immediately west of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

It was a lovely, warm, sunny late spring day, so Shane and I went wading while Brian took a nap. Shane regretted not having a swim suit.
